*This is a WHIKE Tour. Whike is a new active WorldTowning tour that offers a more physically intense, fast-paced, and local experience with a one to two-day afternoon hiking component. There have been many requests for a trip like this, so we will offer two in 2025. The remainder of our trips for 2025 will be our typical WorldTowning adventure. Please take a look at the fitness level requirements below before signing up.
Embark on an unforgettable adventure with us in Vietnam, a country that seamlessly blends ancient traditions with modern vibrancy. We will immerse ourselves in the bustling streets of Hanoi, savoring the tantalizing street food and explore centuries-old temples. We will cruise (and/or kayak) through the stunning limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay, creating memories against the backdrop of breathtaking scenery. We will discover the historical significance of Ho Chi Minh City, formerly Saigon, and appreciate the French colonial architecture. Whether we are trekking through terraced rice fields in Sapa or making lanterns in Hoi An, Vietnam promises a captivating journey filled with cultural richness and natural beauty. Get ready for an extraordinary group experience in this enchanting Southeast Asian gem.
This is a different trip than our typical WorldTowning Voyages adventures, as we will be biking, hiking, kayaking, motorbiking (more than once), cruising/sailing on a boat, and walking A LOT. We will sleep in homestays (similar to bed and breakfasts), hostels, and overnight trains alongside taking public transportation, tuk-tuks, buses, and motorbikes. This adventure will not have a tour bus or van transportation. We will change accommodations at least 5 or 6 times, which is why it is a carry-on/backpack-only trip (42L max), plus a small personal item (day pack, purse). You must be an adventurous eater (from street food to fine dining) willing to move faster than on previous WorldTowning trips and, of course, have a great attitude, no grump, and no gossip. The temperatures will vary depending on where we are in the country; cooler in the mountains and much hotter in the valleys, but you won’t even notice it because we will have so much fun during the day and enjoy the a/c to sleep (in most accommodations) and a pool (in some accommodations).
Join us and your fellow WorldTowning Voyagers for ten days of learning, eating, hiking, biking, cooking, crafting, culture, and more in Vietnam! Do you think this sounds amazing to you? The experience is all that and more.
This trip will start in the north of Vietnam and end in the south, so this should be noted when booking flights: the inbound and outbound flights are in two different cities.
For details, you can just scroll to the tabs at the top of the page, which provide a daily itinerary breakdown.
The price is based on double occupancy and a shared room. No private rooms will be available. When we spend a night in the hostel, we could have 3-4 to a room and on the overnight train.
*You will need a visa to enter Vietnam, but it is easy, and we will provide instructions.
*Please ensure you are in the physical condition required for our planned activities. Honesty is crucial, as it is unfair to the group if you are not.
The FAQ page answers many of the questions you may have about vaccines, cancellations, insurance, etc.

Hanoi (Day 1)
You can make yourself comfortable in the accommodations.
We can’t wait to meet you all. As a warm welcome, we would like to invite you to a wine and appetizer evening on Day 1. If you will be arriving late, don’t worry; we will do a more formal welcome at breakfast the following morning.
In addition, we will hold a short workshop (during the wine and appetizer event) to familiarize you with the cultural nuances of life in Vietnam. This is a great way to understand the culture before we get started.
Get a good night’s sleep because tomorrow, we rock and roll!
Hanoi-Sapa (Day 2)
This is the first official day of our voyage together. We will take a bagged breakfast with us to our early morning bus.
BUS TO SAPA
We will board a luxury bus for a 6-hour ride to Sapa on a lying flat sleeper bus.
RED DAO VILLAGE
We will spend one night in a Red Dao ethnic village in the Sapa Valley. It is a small, peaceful village surrounded by nature, mountains, bamboo forests, and rice fields. Our hosts will share local traditions and practices over a community meal each time we dine. IMHO, this is the highlight of the trip.
*Only the first eight registered can sleep at the village; the rest will sleep down the hill in a hostel. We must be four to a room and share a bed with another same-gender guest in the village, as their accommodations are limited. You can also bring a sleeping bag and air mattress for the floor if you prefer that.
The afternoon will entail hiking through the rice fields and learning about local practices, flora, and fauna.
Sapa (Day 3)
In the village.
We will hop on the back of mopeds and tour the community through the mountains and valleys and rice fields.
BUS BACK TO SAPA
6-hour sleeper bus ride back to Hanoi.
If this is your first time in a hostel it promises to be an exciting new adventure.
Hanoi (Day 4)
LUXURY HALONG BAY OVERNIGHT CRUISE
We will arrive at our boat early in the day, where we will spend one night and two days. During our time, we will participate in many engaging outdoor activities: caves, kayaking between karst limestone outcrops, a sunset party, and much more. In addition, we will eat amazing meals together, laugh, and watch the sunset over cocktails.
Hanoi to Hoi An (Day 5)
We will depart from our overnight cruise and head directly to the train station.
FIRST CLASS OVERNIGHT TRAIN TO HOI AN
The trains offers well-appointed cabins with comfortable beds, clean amenities, and a range of services. It's a unique way to combine comfort and adventure as we journey through the country's beauty under the moonlit skies.
Hoi An (Day 6)
Upon arrival at our homestay.
A true Vietnam experience is to have clothing custom-made to your size with the fabric of your dreams.
Lanterns are a symbol of Hoi An, where locals believe they bring happiness, luck, and wealth. Choose from a wealth of different silks, then work with your instructor to craft a bamboo frame and create your lantern, which will fold neatly into your luggage.
DINNER at THE NIGHT MARKET
Here, we will indulge in a variety of delicious dishes. Vendors set up tiny tables for customers to gather around, creating a friendly and communal atmosphere where visitors can chat with locals and watch the bustling streets while eating exotic foods.
LANTERN BOAT RIDE
We will take an evening boat ride to explore Hoi An at its most magical while releasing a lantern on the Hoai River.
Hoi An (Day 7)
Learn the art of crafting traditional Vietnamese dishes, from savory pho to flavorful spring rolls, guided by skilled local chefs. We will immerse ourselves in the vibrant local market to handpick fresh ingredients and then return to the kitchen to transform them into a feast. The class not only offers a taste of Hoi An's distinctive cuisine but also provides insights into the cultural significance of each dish.
POOL TIME & MASSAGE
Vietnam is renowned for its traditional massages, such as the Vietnamese or "Nuad Bo Rarn" style and the soothing "Dao" techniques. Let the skilled therapists melt away stress, using ancient techniques that focus on balancing energy and promoting overall well-being. A Vietnamese massage offers physical relaxation and a cultural immersion into the therapeutic traditions of this enchanting country.
Because we should sing! And it is directly across the street from our homestay so no one can opt out because they are tired. Wink.
Hoi An (Day 8)

We will leave the city for the morning on an exciting tour. Mỹ Sơn is a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Shaiva Hindu temples in central Vietnam, constructed between the 4th and the 14th century by the Kings of Champa, an Indianized kingdom of the Cham people.
Shopping, rest, or pool time.
Train to Ho Chi Ming City
Ho Chi Ming City (Day 9)
In Ho Chi Ming City.
CU CHI TUNNELS
Vietnam soldiers used the tunnels as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches, and living quarters for numerous North Vietnamese fighters. We will take a private and respectful tour.
